A mirrorless, camera is a digital single lens reflex or digital camera featuring a self-contained, interchangeable lens and a flat digital display. Mirrorless cameras are not “point-and-shoot” cameras as most are designed with a very large LCD screen attached to the camera body. They have greatly increased usability and lower cost compared to traditional point-and-shoot digital cameras since they do not require a mirror to illuminate the image. This technology enables the photographer to eliminate the need for a flash gun, resulting in much better images even at the darkest of conditions. Because a mirror is not needed to collect light, the LCD screen can show brighter images and more lumens than conventional digital cameras.Lenses used in mirrorless cameras are constructed to give a larger image area without using a mirror, and therefore, provide a high resolution image. Lenses are often available as a built-in feature of the camera or can be purchased as separate lenses from the manufacturer. Depending on the camera model, there may be different types of lenses available such as a short zoom lens or a full range lens. The majority of mirrorless cameras use a single image sensor, which functions as a viewfinder. This sensor is usually characterized by an optical path and combines this with the subject image through a combination of electronics and computer science, to form an extremely flexible viewing platform. It allows photographers to change the focus during a shooting session by moving the mirror to different positions relative to the subject to achieve different effects. Because there are no mechanisms that require a mirror to keep an image constant, photographers can experiment with a variety of shutter speeds and f/stop settings while still taking great photos. This feature is especially popular among professional photographers and is one reason why many mirrorless cameras are offered at affordable prices.
